I bought this for my husband as he had an 30 year old cast aluminum grill that was lost 10 years ago. After hearing how much he missed it (for 10 years!)I decided to try to find something similar. To my surprise, and his, it's the same brand as his old grill! He adores it and it will probably be the last grill he owns. My husband purchased a PKG back in the 1980's and we've enjoyed countless wonderful meals over the years. We've even cooked the Thanksgiving turkey (22 lbs.) for family and friends. The turkey looked like something out of a Norman Rockwell painting and was so tender and moist! We recently moved and decided to buy a new PKG. The new grill is even better than the old one. We like how the lid opens to the side, and also the hinged grilling rack. We definitely reccommend this grill to anyone who enjoys grilling for family and friends!

I researched a ton of grill/smokers and picked the PK because I didnt want smoking meats to be such a project and after a couple attempts my meats now come out great! That was mostly because I didnt know what meats to use and no fault of the PK!. It's all done when you figure out how to use the vents to control the heat and smoke, I also use my cast iron skillet sometimes right on the grill when smoking to collect the fat and keep clean-up to a minimum. I'm thrilled this is an American made product and the quality construction and parts is obvious. My foreign made gas grill is rusting, and all the parts seem to be falling off. I believe this will be the only smoker I will ever have to buy because of its solid construction. I highly recommend it.

We love to grill practically every week. This pit is built with such quality. My food tasted great; a step above my last pit. It is the perfect size for 2-4 or even 5 people. This grill is wonderful, I only knew how to press the start button on my gas grill but wanted to expand my grilling horizons. The ability to grill and smoke is what I wanted, but other products seemed like way more than what I needed, so I started reading other reviews and found all the portable kitchen folk were more like a big happy family.
Now ask me about the condition of the 3 month old gas grill I own-it's a piece of junk and the PK is so solid and sturdy and the assembly was easy, even my blond-moment when I didn't know what a "hex" thingy was-but there were so few assembly parts I figured it out.
My first try came out (almost) perfect-but that was no fault of the grill. The directions and recipes are great-especially for novices that don't even know how much charcoal to start with.
You probably cant print this for pc reasons, but I'm proud to own an American made, quality product and know my purchase is helping employ American workers, paid a living wage. The directions and recipes are all in English only, I did not have to poke through 30 pages of other languages.
I'm buying another PK to give to my friends for Christmas- they are "bigtime grillers/smokers", and I'll bet they end up loving their PK more than their elaborate set-ups. Oh yea, cleanup is easy and I barely use any charcoal or the smokey things(wood chips).
My first try was with a thick chuck type of meat- I smoked it and it was tasty and juicy, but I took it out too soon and the middle was not done, tried again, but used some patience and it was great. The trick is using the vent thingys on the top and bottom, that I think is the secret, which I'm still working on. I did some great chicken too, using a dry rub and inconvenient heat or whatever it is they call it.
If you've been using a greasy, dirty gas grill for years- I highly recommend the PK, I've given my gas grill a good cleaning, placed the cover on and probably wont touch it again any time soon.

The heat control is easy. From very hot for thin steaks, to slow smoking large cuts. Flare ups are never a problem even with fatty meat, a finger adjustment of the vents is all it needs. Easy to get smoke flavor in fast cooked foods. Heat control is so good, not a problem to grill vegetables along with the meat and both come out perfect. After cooking, with all vents closed, coals go out, unburnt coals can be reused next cook. This saves lots of money on charcoal. Last cast aluminum grill I owned has lasted over 35 years, I expect the PK will do as good or better. I like this grill so much I bought one for my sister and a friend.

I use the PK for all my grilling. I love the fact that the cooker lends itself to searing at a high temperature,and by partially closing the vents the cooking can be finished off at lower temperatures. It makes cooking outside easy and fun.

I thought they didn't make them like this any more. I needed to replace my old rusted out Weber kettle and didn't want to go gas. After lots of research I settled on the PK. After a little more research I found that Mecantila had by far the best price-a full $50 less than my local dealer. [...], the grill took about 15 minutes to assemble with a screw driver and pliers. It's solid as a rock and cooks like a dream. It's perfectly named because it's more than a grill. The lid seals so tight and the aluminum distributes the heat so evenly you can really use it like an outdoor over as much as a traditional grill. Love this grill and would recommend it to any one. The only downside is the relatively small cooking area. Not often an issue for me but if you usually cook for big crowds...buy two!

I Inherited my father's Portable Kitchen Grill in 1976 when he died. He had used it since the late 60's. I used it regularly until this year when my wife bought me a new one for Father's Day. I cannot imagine a more effective way to grill--and the thing is virtually indestructible. The old grill never burned out and was still functioning well when I replaced it. I would never use a gas grill as long as I had the Portable Kitchen Grill.

This grill really does do it all we have smoked on it and the the results were excellent,we grilled hotdogs corn on the cob steak potatoes and only had it 4 days. Best part is I don't have to cook anymore my husband is just loving it.

There is nothing like the taste of grilling over charcoal. We are on our third gas grill in ten years but went ahead and bought this grill after having hamburgers and steaks on my dad's portable kitchen grill when visiting home this summer. This can be used for any type of cooking due to its airtight design you can actually kill the fire and use the briquets over.flare ups are not a problem, just shut the lid and damper it down!This grill will last for a long time, the grates rust out first and the aluminum will corrode quicker if you allow thw wet ashes to stay in the bottom.If I live long enough to need it I intend to make a stainless grill myself.

This grill works great as a smoker or a grill and it is easy to control temperature and air intake with the sliding vents. The shape and the cast aluminum construction make this grill very efficient. We discovered the PK aluminum grill at a beach rental in Florida. It made sense to have the heavy, all-aluminum construction in a location so prone to rust anything made of steel. The four adjustable vents allow perfect heat control, and the metal reflects the heat IN for even cooking. The grilled amberjack was a culinary highlight of our trip, and I knew I had to have one. I'm a fan of the Ceramic Smokers, but to spend $600 on a fragile ceramic cooker doesn't make sense to me. This is the way to go. It should last me about 40 years!

This is my second Portable Kitchen Grill. My first was purchased 1965 at the base exchange, Langley Air Force Base, Va. Over the next nine years that envolved three relocations, parts of the unit were lost in shipment and the body was shell broken. I had lost the address of the company and the various base exchanges didnot stock the grill. After retirement in 1980 to Houston, Tx, I kept trying to find the grill but to no avail. Finally, I found your company on the web.

I've used several propane gas grills for the past 35 years and decided to go back to a charcoal grill since I do believe that the food tastes better. The charcoal grill is very easy to operate, easy to clean and the Portable Kitchen (PK)is cast aluminum with aluminum tubular legs and nothing that can rust. It heats very well and I'm as pleased as can be with my purchase. In fact, this is the second PK I've bought. I liked the first so well that I bought my son-in-law one for his birthday...and he just loves it.

I have been using the original Portable Kithchen I bought for over 45 years (Yes, I said years). The grates have been replaced twice during that time. The aluminum body and cart of the PK Grill have withstood all kinds of weather through the years wihout any issues (Snow, Rain, Heat & Salt Air).

Even though I have purchased several other gas and/or electric grills at times during the past 45 years, I have always gone back to my PK grill. The PK's flavor, performance and veratility can't be beat.

The new PK Grill is for my beach home. Why would I buy anything else when my old PK is still going strong?

This grill is excellent is every respect except one. It provides no means of moving the cooking grate closer to the coals. Usually,even the cheapest of grills enable you to do this. Without being able to move the grate closer to the coals, a vast amount of charcoal is necessary each time to get the cooking surface as hot as I normally want it to be. This one omission is a real disappointment. But otherwise the grill is great, especially its rust-proof durability.

I've used a lot of grills and this one is very good. Had a large usable area. I prefer to indirect cook of my meals, with coals in front and what I'm cooking in rear. Cooked burgers, chicken, steak, ribs, and fish. All came out perfect. The cast aluminum retains the heat and cooks evenly. I've had nothing but great success. Uses very little lump charcoal.

As a kid growing up in Little Rock, our family had a Portable Kitchen that we used for years. It was sad when the company shut down because you could no longer get replacement parts such as a grate which might need to be replaced after years of use. The cast aluminum fire box will last forever. After being out of production for years the PK is, once again, being made in Little Rock. Replacement parts are also available for some of those 40 year old grills. The PK is great for grilling/smoking and is probably one of the most efficient grills on the market. They are so easy to use, too.

This PK does a very good job and is simple to use, maintain, clean and extinguishes quickly after using it. Two things I don't particularly care for are as follows:
1. Both top and bottom vents/dampers are a little wobbly, therefore they can be difficult to adjust once the PK is hot;
2. PK can be a little messy since the bottom vents/dampers are usually open and cause the hot ashes to fall out of the unit. I just place a aluminum pan underneath to catch the ashes.

I have only had my PK grill for a week or so. I've used it three times with great results. The laminated guide book is very helpful. If you can follow directions you can cook on this grill. It's nearly impossible to burn anything when used properly. I've already grilled the following: corn, asparagus, squash, chops, sausage, burgers and chicken wings.

I bought my first portable Aluminium cooker in 1965 while living in Louisiana. Subsequently this grill came with me to Kuwait, the Congo and the UK. It finally burnt through last year after some 40 years service. I was delighted to find that Portable Kitchens Inc have brought back this magnificant design from 'the dead' and that a replacement was available. I had my new one delivered to my sister in California who then brought it with her as part of her checked baggage to the UK. It really is portable.

This grill can do anything from pit bbq to cooking burgers. It is very well made.
Slow cooked ribs for 7 hrs. and they turned out great. I'm looking forward to smoking a turkey on it.
It comes with a nice laminated instruction/recipe book that has all sorts of recipes for complete meals, homade sauces, and lots of tips.

I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS GRILL TOO HIGHLY. THE HEAT CONVECTION IS SECOND TO NONE AND THE FOOD COMES OUT TASTY AND FLAVORFUL. I WILL BE SMOKING A RACK OF RIBS THIS WEEKEND AND AM SURE THEY WILL BE DELICIOUS! NO BUYERS REMORSE HERE!!!!!!!

This grill was discovered by us at a little cabin getaway on a beautiful mountain lake. We looked forward to using it each time we went. We finally had to have one of our own after the proprieter told us he had bought one for each of his cabin units ten years ago...and they still looked brand new, while our 5 year old one was falling apart at home. We use it for everything and find it adds the most amazing flavors!

the PK grill was easy to assemble and is a well made product. I smoked beef short ribs using hickory chips it took around 4 hrs but was worth the wait. The PK grill is everything it advertises to be and I would recommend this grill to anyone who enjoys good tasting bar-b-Q.

We had one in the late 50's and now I can hardly believe that I have one in my adult life that I know will outlast me. You cannot find a better grill, indirect cooker, and or smoker at any price so just pull the trigger and you won't be sorry.

I've owned a Portable Kitchen Grill for over 20 years, and yes, after that long with frequent use, some of the parts will burn up. I'm still using it and holding it together with bailing wire and what substitute (and ill-fitting) parts I can rig up. And, although the fire doesn't go out anymore when I shut it down, its still a great grill. Its the easiest I've ever used, whether cooking fast or slow. (You actually have to teach yourself to not do things other grills demand.) From personal experience, I know P K Grills work perfectly when its blowing a hooley or the air is so still you can barely breath. They work in rain, sleet, snow and hurricanes. And the size is perfect for anything from a couple of folks to burgers & brats for 25. One day soon, I plan on a retirement party for my current grill just so I fire up the new one.

Had a PK Grill years ago, gave it away when I got my first gas grill. BIG MISTAKE! Was surfing the internet for grills and found the PK Grill and ordered it. Great grill will last forever.

I bought this same brand portable cooker grill in 1965. We used it for 35 years.

I was thrilled with the IMPROVEMENTS to the grill... side opening lid, shelf beside grill, bottom shelf for storage, and hinged grilled surface to add charcoal. The vents are much stronger and less likely to stick.

In 40 years, I've used a mountain of charcoal and a lot of grills. I've owned a P K Grill for 20+ years, and yes, through frequent use, parts will begin to burn up and fail. Still, in my opinion, it is one of best products on the market in America today. The folks that started the company should be honored and those who've resurrected it applauded. (One thing I don't understand is why the lid opens on the end instead of the side as it used to.) But I don't think it matters. I'm still looking forward to another 20+ years (if I survive that long)of great grillin'/smokin'. Would I recommend it to a friend? Absolutely, weather they grill daily or annually.

If you're tired of gas grills and ready to get back to basics... this is it. My dad had one of these (this exact model) back in the 70's and now it's back! This is hand's down the best charcoal grill you can buy. No one's been disappointed yet! From burgers to steaks or chicken (or even a small turkey!) you can do it all on this grill.

Since man first commanded fire, sixty thousand years of evolution the PK Grill harnessed & controlled fire to grill or smoke those tasty critters down the evolutionary scale. Wrapped in body like an A-1 Abrams battle tank Ho Ra!!! But remember this is cast aluminum, sudden heating or colling of a section of the cast body and Crack! YOU must know your fire, you can act like a man. Fire up them coals, soak your smoken wood & yourself in some suds and create a BBQ masterpiece winter ,summer or fall. Enjoy!!!!
