We were pleased with the grilling of this item. The grill grid is very close to the charcoal surface however. When we cooked steaks we just flipped them frequently & they were great! Be aware you can NOT grill AND use the firepit at the same time. You can EITHER have the grill grid on OR the firepit fencing.
